According to Kompas.TV on December 12, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) under the Indonesian Ministry of Finance announced that the retail prices of traditional cigarettes and vapes will rise in 2025.
Askolani, director of the Directorate General, said that this move is part of the government’s policy to manage tobacco taxes and aims to make adjustments without raising the excise tax (CHT) rate on tobacco products.
At the Indonesian National Budget Press Conference held in Jakarta on December 11, Askolani mentioned that the Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK) will be the legal basis for the increase in cigarette prices, and the document is expected to be released this week.
Ascolani added, “We have prepared the Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK) together with the Fiscal Policy Bureau (BKF), and the document has been coordinated with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and will be implemented this week if nothing unexpected happens. One PMK is about the HJE of traditional cigarettes and the other is about the HJE of vapes, which will serve as the basis for the 2025 policy.”
The Directorate General of Customs and Excise also coordinated with the Indonesian National Printing Company (Peruri) to prepare for the printing of new tobacco tax signs in 2025.
“We have signed a contract with Peruri, and Peruri has prepared facilities, infrastructure and raw materials so that it can start and prepare to meet market demand in December this year.”
Ascolani said that the demand for stamps will increase significantly in December this year and reach a peak in January next year, with an estimated demand of 15 to 17 million tobacco tax stamps.
