Anyone trading vapes, hookahs and their accessories in the Sultanate of Oman will be fined up to 2,000 riyals ($5,196) if they violate the regulations multiple times, the chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority said.
According to media reports, His Excellency Sulayem bin Ali Al-Hakmani issued Ministerial Decision No. 756/2023 on Sunday, January 7, 2024, promulgating the ban.
Article 1: The circulation of vapes, hookahs and their accessories is prohibited.
Article 2 stipulates: Anyone who violates the provisions of this decision shall, without prejudice to the criminal penalties stipulated in the above-mentioned Consumer Protection Law, be subject to an administrative fine not exceeding 1,000 Swiss francs; if he violates it again, Double the fine.
“If this violation continues, an administrative fine of 50 riyals per day will be imposed, but its total amount shall not exceed 2,000 riyals. The seized vapes, hookahs and their accessories will be destroyed in accordance with the current control measures of the Consumer Protection Directorate .”
The new bill also repeals a previous resolution (No. 698/2015), as well as any laws or rules that contradict the current resolution or conflict with its provisions.
The new bill also stipulates that the decision “shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall take effect from the date of publication”.
