The e-cigarette industry has a proven track record of adopting innovative technologies and applying them to next-generation nicotine delivery. Aquios Labs is looking to introduce an entirely new product category to the industry: water-based e-cigarettes.
Most traditional vaping devices and e-liquids contain no water at all, in those devices that are limited to 3 percent or less. So far, the low viscosity of water has made it unsuitable for any meaningful vaping device.
Aquios Labs has positioned itself as a tech company rather than a consumer-facing brand, looking to integrate water-based e-cigarettes into its existing product portfolio. Its first-generation technology, dubbed “AQ30,” uses a combination of a specially formulated e-liquid and a hardware design that can support up to 30% water content.
The first commercial water-based vaping device will be available by the end of April. Aquios says it is already developing the ability to support higher levels of water content.
Water-based e-cigarettes perform differently than traditional e-cigarettes. The water content reduces dehydration and irritation, helps deliver nicotine more efficiently and produces a more natural taste. In addition, the working temperature of water-based electronic cigarettes is much lower than that of traditional electronic cigarettes, which greatly enhances the chemical stability of the electronic cigarette process.
Jack Sanders, founder of Aquios Labs, said: “We started Aquios Labs because there is still a long way to go to improve the vaping experience. Industry giant Innokin has made a big bet on the future of water-based e-cigarettes and plans to integrate Aquios Labs technology into their various entry-level devices. Consumers can expect to see Innokin devices featuring AQ30 technology debut in the second quarter of 2022.
