The Philippines Bureau of Customs (BoC) on July 30 ordered an investigation into the suspected recycling and resale of seized vape products, Manila Times reported on July 31.
Customs Director Bienvenido Rubio directed Deputy Director of the Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy to lead the Intelligence Group to conduct a comprehensive fact-finding investigation on these items, which were reportedly recently seized and placed under a “custody order” through a mission order.
The number of vapes is still being verified.
Rubio added that the directive also aims to identify any possible actions involving Customs personnel. The investigation will assess any potential administrative and criminal liabilities associated with these allegations.
The team was instructed to submit weekly progress reports and a detailed fact-finding report within 30 days.
Meanwhile, Rubio assured the public that the counterfeit goods worth 11 billion pesos (US$180 million) recently seized in Binondo, Manila are safe.
He said that these goods will be subject to appropriate seizure and confiscation procedures in accordance with the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and other relevant regulations.
