According to Canarian Weekly on July 18, the government of the Canary Islands in Spain will maintain and increase taxes on vapes and vaping products in the 2025 budget. Finance Minister Matilde Asián announced the decision at a parliamentary committee meeting.
This decision is a continuation of the 2024 budget, when the Canary Islands became the first region in Spain to impose a tax of 0.10 euros per milliliter on vape oil, regardless of its nicotine content.
Asián stressed that this shows the government’s commitment to public health and hopes that similar tax regulations will soon be implemented throughout Europe.
Melodie Mendoza of the Socialist Party of Gomera (ASG) expressed concern about vapes and vaping devices, calling them “deceptive entrances to smoking for teenagers” because these products are often designed to look like toys and have sweet flavors. Mendoza said she agrees with the Ministry of Health’s recent move to equate vape regulation with traditional tobacco products.
Mendoza believes that the potential benefits of increasing vape taxes include a deterrent effect and providing additional revenue for health services. She advocates for higher taxes to reduce use and fund health programs.
Veehoo vape, as an vape manufacturer committed to compliance and safety, expressed concern about the decision of the Canary Islands government. We recognize the problem of increased use and appeal of vapes among teenagers and are committed to taking proactive measures to protect the health and well-being of young people.
Strengthening regulation and increasing taxes are necessary measures for the vape industry. We firmly believe that compliance and safety are the cornerstones of the vape industry and are essential to protecting consumers from potential risks.
In addition to increasing taxes, education is also key to solving the problem of vapes. Veehoo vape is committed to increasing people’s awareness and understanding of vapes through public education. We will continue to work with the government, educational institutions and communities to jointly carry out youth health education activities to convey the right information to them and help them make wise choices.
By strengthening regulation, increasing taxes and providing education, we can work together to address the use of vapes among teenagers and protect their health and well-being. Veehoo vape will continue to be committed to promoting compliance and safety in the industry to ensure that consumers can choose vape products that meet standards and contribute to public health.
